Interview with Bklim

How long have you been interested in nature photography?
I’ve been active in nature photography for almost 2 years now, from July 2007 onwards.
Which particular genre do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy bird photography the most of all genres in nature photography.
How did you learn photography techniques?
I read a lot! I read how to sacrifice our rest and sleeping time by getting up very early in the morning because birds are normally very active at the first light. I learnt the importance of having to have the patience even when the mosquito bites, scorching hot sun and pungent smell can be overwhelming at times… I have to be patient and wait for my desired target to appear.. And the most important thing of all that I learnt is to love the Nature.
Were there any photographer(s) that you like and influences your style?
There are many in NPX. I particularly like the photos from Nelson Khor, Mountainman, Mark Chua and Jz! They all inspired and influenced me to take better photos.
What are the stuff in your dry cabinet? If you can only bring one lens out on your trip, which one will that be?
Haha that will be my trusted 18X Zoom PnS plus 2xTC. This is standard gear I always bring along on my field trips.
Which is your favourite bird species and why?
It has to be the Kingfishers! They never fail to surprise me with their actions and poses.
Which other genres of nature photography you’d like to pursue in the future? Why is it so?
I think I will stick to bird for now.. it will be hard to find another genre that I love as much as bird photography.
While pursuing your hobby, what is your most memorable moment to date?
Documenting the Common Kingfisher! I spent almost 3 months shooting this cute bird..I will never forget the moment when it decided to rest less than 3 metres in front of me!! It was so……. cute you know..
What are the challenges you’ve faced?
As you all know I’m using a point and shoot. So, the shutter speed is the most challenging aspect of it for me! I have miss many great moments because of this!
Please share with us a couple of your favourite images accumulated over the years. Please describe to us why you like these images.
a) This photo of the Little Grebe made me believe that a simple point and shoot camera can also produce images of wild birds with very good detail.
