Notes from the trip

1. What started as a birding trip, ended on a sweet note as a snorkeling trip. Tangkoko maybe a birder’s paradise, but ‘almost’ a photographer’s nightmare. Imagine we had to trek close to 12kms from 5.30am to 7.30pm thru thick primary forest with plenty of up and downslopes. Luckily our guides were most willing to help wth carrying the camera gear sparringly. We were not aware of the tough terrain and it really caught us off-guard.

2. Bird density is low at Tangkoko. But fortunately what was lacking in birdlife was partly made up with good weather, and the primates in Spectral Tarsier and Black Macaque. The entire trip we had beautiful, almost cloudless day. We’re lucky as at this time of the year Manado should still be in transition from wet weather.

3. Due to the lack of birdlife, we abandoned birding and switched to snorkeling on the last day. The corals and fishes at Bunaken are world class. We chartered a big 30-seater catamaran boat for a little over SGD100 for the whole day. Everyone had great and enjoyable day.

if the wildlife is not enough to entice you, the diving and snorkeling surely would.. Silk Air approaching Manado
